Like you said, they probably crunched the numbers and realized that in order to keep operating where they are now (and to get out of the hole they've dug themselves into), they'd have to open up GOG to DRM. Now that I think about it CDP hasn't been doing well financially after what happened with Cyberpunk (amazing pre-sales/non-existent sales after launch), plus (See the below post) Their brand as a whole has been significantly tarnished which I strongly suspect has affected the sales of other parts of their business (GOG, Witcher, Gwent). At some point they did the math and saw that this change of course would be more profitable in the face of whatever consumer backlash may occur. Their primary function is to make as much money as possible, not to do right by consumers.ĬDP is a public company, so they’re legally obligated to generate as much income as they can.
